Reaching Out

On Thursday, November 30,2012 I was invited back to Villa Rica High School. I was very pleased to see the turn out of the students to the assembly being that it was voluntary. The focus for the assembly was to touch on the number of students that don't return to school after Christmas break. We talked again about the importance in graduation and staying on task even after graduation. The idea of starting an outreach program was discussed again and the students loved it.

Not only were the students very respectful to me,but they were attentive to one another and listened to what their fellow peers had to say. (top photo). After the assembly was over I had a few give a ways for the students that asked questions and shared their comments and concerns (bottom photo).

In my previous path of work, I work predominantly with African American students. I was extremely pleased to see the turn out of the African American males and their anticipation on trying to find as many ways possible to help them stay on track and graduate.

Pages Of Our Diaries

  Over the past few months I had the pleasure of directing and producing a production titled Pages of Our Diaries. The production was a series of poems and songs that touched on very sensitive subjects that people go through that tend to prevent them from overcoming life obstacles. Some of  the pieces were original and some were written by the president, vice president of  College Girls Rock and myself. On Monday, November 12, 2012 the room was filled with family and friends of the cast, members and supporters of CGR, and students that came out to watch POD. During the intermission the audience was asked to write down something that they have never shared with anyone or something that happened to them in the past that they have been struggling with. The outstanding participation from the audience was greatly appreciated. the responses not only enhanced the purpose of the show, but it showed others that they were not the only ones  going through certain situations. This was the second year of Pages of Our Diaries and I am looking forward to year three.

Daily Inspiration

We all die, the goal isn't to live forever. It's to create something that will;
Empower to Improve

Villa Rica High School

Tuesday October 23,2012 at 7:40 am, I met with a mixed group of high school students. We discussed statistics about graduating and the chances that everyone in the room would probably not further their education due to personal choices. My goal was not only to familiarize my face with the students, but to get a better idea of future events to put on. The students were very responsive and intriguing. Although this was my first time meeting with the students at VRHS they welcomed me into their school by paying full attention and informing me on a typical day in the lives of a VRHS freshmen, sophomore  junior, and senior.

Personal Motivation

My 7 year old niece Ayanna is my overall motivation. She means the world to me, not only because she is my first niece, but because she reminds me that I must help better this world not just for my future, but for hers. She is my motivation to always strive to be and do my best. Ayanna helps me remember that there is always someone looking up to me waiting to see me do well.

Involvement

The only thing wrong with doing nothing is that you never know when you're finished  -Author Unknown
  On the campus of the University of West Georgia I am an active member of several varying organizations. Some of those organizations are; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Women of Diversity (WOD) an all female organization that focuses on making every young women at the University of West Georgia feel apart of something, along with giving sisterhood to those whom seek it and a helping hand and loving heart to all those around us. Social Chair for College Girls Rock (CGR) an organization reaching out to the ladies not only on the campus of UWG but also in the Carroll County Community. Our mission is to help these young ladies see the pros to furthering their education after high school.To the young ladies that are in college we encourage them to stay in school and most importantly prioritize. To the young ladies in the community we strive to find out why is it that they are not interested in going to college and hopefully change their views on college. Although college is not for everyone, our goal is to find what works for these young women. College is not just work 24/7 its about networking and building a lifestyle for your self. Also I am a paid Peer Educator. Peer educators are UWG students that go around to different freshmen classes, organizations,clubs, and programs in the community (by invitation) bringing awareness to the topics college students don't like to shine light on such as STDs and Alcohol abuse issues.

The programs listed above are not the only programs I am apart of, but are the most motivational and inspiring to my actual career path.
